Our vision with Soya is that it'll become a resource for everyone into scripting, free to use by anyone for anything, and most important, free from harsh license restrictions. That is why we have choosen to release Soya under the widely accepted and non-restrictive BSD license. The idea is similar to what CPAN (Comprehensive Perl Archive Network) is for the PERL community.

This, however assumes there are people out there willing to contribute with code, ideas documentation or whatever else to bring this beast further. This is a win-win situation for everyone, you share your code with the community and you are free to use other people's contributions, meaning you can lean back on linking/combining your own custom code with Soya library code, minimalizing development time and not having to re-invent well proven wheels again. Even if your work is intended for a commercial audience, you can still use the Soya library code as long as your creation fits into the BSD license boundaries.

Contributing, what about my copyrights
If you contributions gets included into the official Soya distribution, which is decided on a community basis, you still retain the copyright for every piece you are responsible for. Like with any other artistical work, the author still owns the copyright of his creations. License and copyright do not interfere in any way, a license only cover distribution and usage.
